Biotia announced an oversubscribed $9 million financing to expand its clinical metagenomics platform. The company says its BIOTIA-ID Urine Test identifies causes of recurrent and complicated urinary tract infections and that funding will support laboratory expansion, reimbursement work and development of additional diagnostics.

Standard urine culture can miss organisms or provide limited information in complex recurrent cases. Metagenomic testing is promising, but payers and clinicians will need evidence that added detection changes treatment decisions and outcomes without driving unnecessary antibiotics.

Peer-reviewed performance data, reimbursement coverage, turnaround time, antimicrobial-stewardship safeguards, clinician adoption and whether new women’s-health tests move beyond company claims.
