What happened
ProFound Therapeutics announced an initial $20 million investment, with up to $35 million available, from the Gates Foundation. The program will use the company’s protein-discovery platform and agentic AI to investigate pre-eclampsia and eclampsia biology.
Why it matters
Pre-eclampsia remains a major source of maternal and newborn harm, with limited tools for prediction and targeted treatment. A large discovery program can widen the target pipeline, but it has not yet produced a validated biomarker, drug candidate or clinical result.
